What is happening this Christmas?
The weather this year is extreme (perhaps partially due to global warming), but not in a good way.
The storm front that is running across the United States brings in snowstorms, icy roads, blizzards and a whole bunch of cold.
And this is not only bad for your health, but also for your house.
How does a blizzard impact my home insurance?
Although less common, blizzards are like floods to homeowners’ insurers. The extreme cold can cause pipes to freeze, roofs to break or even walls to get moldy.
Not to mention the fact that in the neighborhood even the electricity poles can freeze and break, leaving you without electricity, as is happening currently throughout America. All of this could possibly be costing the insurances millions in total.
But that is why you insure your home. A blizzard can have huge winds that can shatter your windows or blow over fences and roofs.
If this happens, you want to be insured to the best of your abilities, so that you are not left paying for the damages afterwards.
Of course, insuring yourself against a one-in-a-million chance might sound like a bad idea, but even if you live in an area where it does not happen, one huge stormfront like now, could save you more than the money you are paying for the insurance.
How do I find the right insurance for snowstorms?
It is important to browse around your area to find the possible insurers.
If you live in an area where snowstorms are common, most insurers will have clauses that cover these events, and you should pay close attention to those.
However, if you are not in an area where this is common like Texas, usually you will not find such clause in the policy. Make sure you discuss this with your broker or insurer before you sign the deal.
If you can get such a clause added to your insurance, you might save yourself a huge deal when the time comes.
